1. Use your compost bin to store Compostable, Biodegradable materials only.  
2. The compost bin lid was designed with a Light-Lift Feature that allows you to smoothly lift up when you're ready to deposit your kitchen scraps w/o the hassle of a lock or a clasp.
3. Your compost bin comes with two 4" charcoal filters.  Take one out and place it into the round hole in the underside of the lid.  Keep the other for future use, I recommend changing the filter every 3/6 months. 
4. When your bin is full, transfer the compost to your outdoor compost pile or your community compost d/o site. 

I clean it thoroughly after each use.  To clean the filter (if necessary), soak in warm soapy water for 15 minutes, then rinse and air dry before placing it back in the lid.
